Intel is preparing a dual-core Atom processor with integrated Wi-Fi

Intel Atom series is known for low power consumption and reduced costs of implementation, which allowed the inclusion of a wide range of notebooks and compact PCs, addressed especially to those with modest budgets.

The newest member of Intel Atom series processors is called Rosepoint, it has a SoC design (system-on-chip) with higher level of integration, which manages to bring silicon substrate space of the processor including network card Wi-Fi, eliminating the space normally occupied by RF modulators and other radio circuits.

Besides a more compact design, the digital version of the network card allows significant improvements in energy consumption while ensuring a better signal at using Wi-Fi networks by eliminating the need for analog wireless receivers.

Currently, processors based on the Rosepoint architecture are in a experimental stage, but functional. However, for the first products equipped with Intel Atom from the Rosepoint family we have some time to wait, Intel promised completion of the technology around 2015.
